Our Mission

GhiyasuddinTughlaq.com is an educational resource dedicated to documenting the historically verified truth about Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq's reign (1320–1325 CE) and its lasting impact on Indian civilization, culture, and heritage.

This project exists because:

  • Indian textbooks systematically whitewash the documented atrocities of the Delhi Sultanate period, presenting rulers like Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq as "just and moderate" while omitting their documented discriminatory policies
  • Primary historical sources — written by medieval Muslim chroniclers themselves — tell a dramatically different story that every Indian has the right to know
  • The physical evidence — ruined temples at Warangal, disfigured sculptures, broken idols — speaks for itself but is rarely connected to its historical context in educational materials
  • The Tughlaq dynasty's 93-year impact cannot be understood without understanding its founder, yet Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq's role is minimized or overlooked

Our Methodology

Every claim on this website follows these principles:

  • Primary source documentation: We rely primarily on medieval chronicles — the Tughlaq Nama (Amir Khusrau), the Tarikh-i-Firoz Shahi (Ziauddin Barani), the Rihla (Ibn Batuta) — many written by Muslim historians sympathetic to Islamic rulers
  • Archaeological corroboration: Where possible, textual claims are supported by physical archaeological evidence, particularly at sites like Warangal Fort
  • Academic cross-referencing: We cross-reference primary sources with modern scholarly analysis, including works in major academic journals and university publications
  • Transparent sourcing: Every significant claim is attributed to its source. Readers can verify any claim by consulting the references provided
  • Honest presentation: Where the historical record is ambiguous or debated, we note the debate rather than presenting one interpretation as definitive

Founder — Bharat Files Initiative

Digant Sharma is the founder of the Bharat Files Initiative, a comprehensive educational project dedicated to documenting and presenting the historically verified impact of medieval rulers on Indian civilization.

Through a series of meticulously researched websites — each focused on a specific historical figure — the initiative aims to provide Indians with access to primary source documentation that is often omitted from standard educational materials.

The Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq project is one of 15 websites in the Bharat Files Initiative, each covering a different ruler whose impact on Indian civilization has been systematically underrepresented in mainstream education.
